Three Things Every Network Marketer Should Know
Awhile ago a friend of mine, who is new to the network marketing world, asked me for advice. She asked me to tell her three things I think every network marketer should know or understand.
It made me think about all I have learned along the way that has shaped me and my business. I’ve had some really big highs and some really big lows. But overall, it’s been a great ride and a journey I would never take back.
So, in the end I came up with these 3 points to share with her. And now I’m sharing them with you too.
#1 - Network Marketing is Not Easy
How many people do you know who came into this industry thinking it would be fairly easy to make some money, recruit some friends and make a decent supplemental income?
Maybe you were one of them (Hand up – I was!). I was disappointed when I realized it wouldn’t be so easy. Were you?
Eric Worre, who is a great network marketing leader, has a great way to explain how long it really takes to become successful.
Now listen – this is all dependent upon you WORKING HARD. Not just thinking about it every day….but consistent daily effort. Day in, day out. It requires sacrifice, but it will give you freedom.
So here’s his plan….it’s called the 1/3/5/7 plan. It says this:
- It’s going to take you about 1 year to figure things out. To get to the point you understand how to invite, how to ask someone to join your business.
- It’s going to take you about 3 years to get to a full time income IF you’re really working at it.
- It’s going to take you about 5 years to get to a six figure or multiple six figure a year income.
- It going to take you about 7 years to get world class.
The truth is, most network marketers quit without really giving it their all.
If network marketing was easy and everyone could make this plan work fairly easily, everyone would be doing it!
Jobs are easy. You just show up. Do what they tell you to do. And you get paid.
The opportunity to earn a fortune isn’t in a job. But the opportunity to build wealth is definitely there in network marketing.
So accept and embrace that building your business is going to be hard and a lot of work.
Adjust your outlook to learn to accept and welcome Eric Worre’s challenge. Commit to getting not just good but great at network marketing and it WILL become easier.
But it’ll become easier because YOU have increased your skills.

#3 - Your Upline is NOT the key to your Success
Then who is?
One of the things I hear people in our industry say over and over again is that the reason they are not having success is because their upline is not supporting them.
Only YOU can decide that you’re going to work hard, plug into company trainings, figure it out and get it done.
Will you have success faster and easier with a supportive upline?
Probably. But maybe not.
But here’s the deal – your upline’s role is really to get you self-sufficient as fast as possible. Show you where to find information you’ll need, give you some tools and resources, point you in the right direction – and then its show time.
After all, that’s one of the beauties of owning a network marketing business. You don’t have a boss.
So, your upline isn’t your boss and your upline can’t MAKE you successful.
YOU have to put in the hard work. YOU have to stay consistent. YOU have to dial into trainings to get the knowledge you need.
It’s really up to YOU.
